Pre-arrival Guide
International Exchange Student Orientation
  • All international exchange students are required to attend the International Exchange Student Orientation. The orientation takes place 1-2 weeks before the beginning of classes and will acquaint you with Peking University, Guanghua, and Chinese culture. In addition, you will receive important information regarding course selection, visa, residence permit, and adjusting to life in China.
  • The orientation and registration day for Fall semester 2019 will be on August 28, 2019, the schedule will be sent to you by email.
Buddy Program
  • All international exchange students will be assigned a “buddy,” a student currently enrolled at Guanghua, who will not only help you adjust to campus life, but will also help you navigate through Beijing. Before the start of classes, GISA (Guanghua International Students Association) will email you the contact information for your “buddy.” GISA can be contacted at
Visa and Residence Permit
  • Staying in China for longer than 3 months: Student Visa (X1 or X2).
  • Students who are not Chinese citizens and are planning to stay longer than 3 months are required to obtain a “X1” or “X2” visa to enter and study in China.
  • Exchange students studying in China for less than 6 months, please apply for the X2 visa.
  • Upon receiving a favorable admissions decision, Guanghua will mail your admissions packet to your home university, which will include a formal acceptance letter and the relevant documents for the visa application. This formal acceptance letter, along with any relevant visa documents included in your admissions packet should be used to apply for a “X1” or “X2” visa at the local Chinese Embassy/ Consulate in your home country. Please keep in mind that visa application processing times vary, so apply for your visa as soon as possible.

Health Insurance
  • All exchange students are required to buy the health insurance during their stay on the registration day in the Peking University. The insurance costs about RMB 400 (subject to change).
  • Peking University and Guanghua does not provide accommodations for exchange students. Thus, students are responsible for finding their own accommodations during their stay in Beijing. If you need any advice regarding how to find accommodations, please contact us.
